The Amethyst is a 12-input stereo preamplifier with Trinnov's Optimizer on board. With the optional Trinnov 3D measurement microphone, the calibration wizard creates five presets, out of the 29 the unit can store.
The built-in active crossover splits the signal into two ways. It handles 2.0, bi-amped 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2. Four balanced XLR outputs and four RCA outputs feed the amplifiers and subwoofers.
Processing runs in 64-bit floating point, with a resolution above 320 dB. Volume is therefore adjusted in the digital domain without any loss of resolution. Sources up to 192 kHz stay at their native rate, with no conversion or downsampling, and the D/A converter reaches an A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio of 118 dB.
Twelve digital and analogue sources connect at the back, including an RCA phono input that can be switched to line level. Ethernet and built-in Wi-Fi link the unit to the network as a UPnP/DLNA player and Roon Ready device. It can be controlled from a tablet, a smartphone, a computer, the iOS app or the infrared remote control.
