Naim streaming platform

The NSC 222 plays WAV files up to 32 bit/384 kHz as well as DSD 64 and 128 Fs streams. Supported sources include Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, UPnP and internet radio. Networking runs over 10/100 Ethernet or 802.11ac Wi-Fi, with the antenna housed inside the heatsink. The digital stage covers 3 Hz to 27 kHz at -3 dB.

Phono and headphone section

The MM phono stage is built into the preamplifier: 47 kΩ/470 pF load, 5 mV sensitivity and 40 dB gain. The RIAA curve is held to ±0.1 dB, with 23 dB of overload margin, or 75 mV peak. The 6.35 mm headphone jack delivers 1.5 W into 16 Ω.

Digital and analogue connections

Two TOSLINK optical inputs accept up to 24 bit/96 kHz, while the RCA and BNC coaxial inputs reach 24 bit/192 kHz and handle DoP 64 Fs. On the analogue side, an 8-pin DIN socket that also takes 5-pin DIN cables sits alongside a stereo RCA pair loaded at 47 kΩ. Preamplifier outputs are provided on both XLR and RCA, at up to 7 Vrms. Two USB type A ports, front and rear, supply 1.6 A.

Colour display and controls

A 5.5-inch colour display shows the track playing, and four buttons give access to standby, playback, inputs and favourites. The Zigbee RF4CE remote control is supplied, and the Focal & Naim app controls the unit from iOS or Android. Multiroom mode synchronises up to six Naim streamers. The aluminium chassis measures 43.2 × 31.75 × 9.15 cm and weighs 11 kg, with a consumption of 25 W in normal use.
