The MCA 225 Gen 2 includes ALM technology, which monitors internal temperature, current and voltage. It steps in only in extreme conditions, to protect the amplifier and the speakers, and it removes internal fuses from the signal path. If a fault occurs, the unaffected channels keep playing, then operation on all channels resumes by itself once conditions return to normal. A front-panel LED confirms the status at all times.
A custom-built low-flux toroidal transformer powers the MCA 225 Gen 2. It limits stray magnetic radiation, which keeps operation very quiet. Each channel has 8 bipolar output transistors that share the load, so each one is less stressed. The signal-to-noise ratio reaches 120 dB (IEC-A, ref. 225 W).
The rear panel combines single-ended RCA and balanced XLR inputs, with an input impedance of 10 kΩ on RCA and 15 kΩ on XLR, plus a relay trigger on a 3.5 mm mono jack. The larger, more conductive speaker binding posts hold the cables firmly. Three switch-on modes are available: trigger, manual or automatic by signal sensing. Standby consumption is 1.0 W.
The MCA 225 Gen 2 complements the AVM 70 and AVM 90 A/V processors, whose styling it shares. These processors handle configurations of up to 15.4 channels with ARC Genesis room correction. The amplifier delivers 225 W per channel into 8 Ω, 400 W into 4 Ω and 600 W into 2 Ω. It measures 43.18 × 46 × 16.9 cm (W × D × H with feet) and weighs 18 kg.
