Dual Primus Maximus: the benchmark direct-drive turntable, a limited edition of 100 units handcrafted in Germany. Features a 2.7 kg solid aluminum platter, a dual-gimbal tonearm with torsion spring tracking force, a Quintet Bronze cartridge from Ortofon, and a base with real wood veneer. Tracking error within ±0.04%.

The Primus Maximus is Dual’s flagship model: only 100 units, hand-assembled in Germany to order. Each base is finished with a veneer of genuine wood selected piece by piece, making every unit unique. It is as much a technological showcase as it is a home audio turntable.
The platter is machined from a solid block of aluminum and weighs 2.7 kg; its mass is matched to the motor control to reduce runout to ±0.04% (DIN WTD). The motor, platter, and tonearm are mounted on a 10-mm-thick aluminum base plate, coupled to a heavy top plate: the two masses encase the mechanical components and dampen vibrations.
The double-gimbal tonearm is machined from solid aluminum, mounted on ball bearings and featuring hardened steel tips. Its tracking force is not adjusted by a gravitational counterweight but by a brass torsion spring, which is independent of the cabinet’s levelness. The adjustment remains stable over time and withstands slight unevenness in the surface.
The direct-drive motor is designed for high-fidelity audio, tuned for stability rather than the starting torque found in DJ turntables. The Quintet Bronze Ortofon, a moving-coil cartridge, is factory-installed. With height-adjustable feet and a 5-pin tonearm connector on an RCA cable, the Primus Maximus can be leveled to the millimeter.
