The CS 618Q drives its turntable directly, without a belt, using a quartz-stabilized motor. The coreless motor eliminates magnetic fluctuations, and the double shielding blocks out interference fields from the scanner. Speed is maintained with high precision, with a deviation of less than ±0.07% (DIN).
Designed with a manual feel in mind, the 618Q adds two useful automatic features: at the end of the record, the motor stops and the tonearm lifts automatically, preventing the stylus from scraping the exit groove. Antiskating is adjusted via a graduated knob, and the three speeds (33/45/78) are selected via an electronic selector. You retain control over tracking, while the turntable handles the end-of-side transition.
The solid aluminum dual-gimbal tonearm rotates on four precision ball bearings and features a removable cartridge holder. It comes factory-fitted with aOrtofon 2M Blue cartridge, whose refined bare diamond offers greater definition than the 2M Red found on more affordable models. The heavy 1,450 g cast aluminum platter serves as a flywheel.
The MDF base features a black vinyl veneer and sits on 62-mm elastomer feet. A dust cover is included, and the auto-off function can be disabled. This is the understated finish of the 618Q, designed to blend seamlessly into a dark rack.
