Four matched dual triodes

The Melto1 hands all amplification to four selected and matched NOS dual triodes, two 6N1P and two 6N2P-EV. They handle the MM stage and RIAA equalisation, after a switchable low-noise step-up stage for MC cartridges. The circuit runs without feedback.

MM and MC gain

Gain reaches 41 dB with a moving-magnet cartridge and 66 dB with a moving coil. The step-up stage engages according to the selected cartridge type. The unit therefore works with most cartridges on the market.

Adjustable impedance and capacitance

Input impedance is set from 32 ohms to 100 kohms and capacitance from 0 to 300 pF. These settings match the load to the cartridge to fine-tune the tonal balance. The symmetrical layout and separate grounds for signal and current keep noise low.

Connections and build

The rear panel gathers one RCA input and one RCA output, a ground terminal and the setting DIP switches. A toroidal transformer powers the unit, with a maximum consumption of 80 VA. The 43 x 11 x 29 cm case weighs 6.5 kg and has a 5 mm aluminium front panel.
