The Tube Box DS3 B adds balanced inputs and outputs to the tube amplification of the Tube Box range. Its two E88CC tubes are chosen for low noise and low microphonics. The circuit, designed by Dr Sykora, is handmade in Europe.
Two turntables can be connected at the same time, and every setting is made from the front panel. Each input keeps its own parameters in memory. The connection can use a 5-pin mini XLR cable, standard XLR cables or a pair of RCA leads.
Impedance is adjusted steplessly from 10 to 1000 ohms with a potentiometer, during playback, or stays fixed at 47 kohms. Capacitance is selectable between 50, 150, 300 and 400 pF. Gain steps from 40 to 65 dB, with 6 dB more on the XLR output.
Signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 87 dBV A-weighted and distortion stays below 0.03%. RIAA equalisation holds within ±0.5 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and a subsonic filter acts at 20 Hz. The case measures 20.6 x 7 x 19.4 cm, weighs 1.56 kg and comes in black or silver.
