The Phono Box RS2 is balanced from input to output, in a true dual-mono layout. The positive and negative legs of each channel are handled separately, which removes noise picked up along the connection. It accepts MM and MC cartridges, via XLR or RCA.
Load impedance is set continuously from 10 to 1000 ohms with a potentiometer, a system devised by Pro-Ject, or stays fixed at 47 kohms. Capacitance is selectable between 50 and 400 pF. Gain runs from 40 to 70 dB, and a balance control corrects up to 2 dB of difference between the cartridge channels.
The electronics are fully discrete, with no operational amplifiers. The RIAA and DECCA curves come from split passive equalisation, accurate within 0.4 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Signal-to-noise ratio reaches 89 dB A-weighted in MM, and distortion stays below 0.0015%.
The steel chassis, covered with screwed aluminium panels, provides rigidity and isolation from interference. The unit is 20.6 cm wide, weighs 1.6 kg and comes in black or silver. The Power Box RS2 Phono linear power supply, sold separately, can take it further.
