The Phono Box S2 Ultra brings the circuit of the Phono Box Ultra 500 into the S2 line. Its design is fully discrete, with no operational amplifier in the signal path. Polystyrene capacitors complete this choice of components aimed at high-fidelity playback.
Four gain levels, 40, 43, 60 and 63 dB, cover MM as well as MC cartridges. Input impedance can be set to 10 ohms, 100 ohms, 1 kohm or 47 kohms, and capacitance to 100 or 220 pF. A switchable subsonic filter attenuates by 18 dB at 20 Hz.
The RIAA equalisation is split into two parts to follow the curve within less than 0.4 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Signal-to-noise ratio reaches 89 dBV in MM and distortion 0.00052%. The 10.3 cm wide metal case has one pair of RCA inputs and one pair of RCA outputs, powered by an 18 V outboard supply.
