The ZEN Phono 3 accepts moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, in high, low or very low output versions. Its 158 x 115 x 35 mm, 456 g case sits easily next to the turntable. It keeps pace with a growing vinyl system, from a first MM cartridge to a demanding MC.
Four gains of 36, 48, 60 and 72 dB and four input impedance settings combine freely thanks to the load button. MM and high-output MC cartridges see 47 kohms with 100 or 200 pF, low-output MC 1 kohm, 400 or 100 ohms. The intelligent subsonic filter removes only the warp of uneven records and leaves the music's bass intact, without group delay.
At the rear, a balanced output joins the RCA outputs, alongside the ground post and the gain selector. In balanced mode, response extends from 20 Hz to 80 kHz at -3 dB and output voltage exceeds 19.98 V into 100 kohms. Channel separation stays above 75 dB at 1 kHz in every mode.
An isolated 1.2 MHz clean power supply amplifies only the music, with an equivalent input noise of -151 dBV. RIAA equalisation uses several TDK C0G capacitors in parallel and stays within 0.15 dB of the curve from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The unit runs on 5 V DC and accepts an iPower2 supply for an even quieter background.
