Pro-Ject chose to work with Ortofon to develop its Pick it cartridge range, aiming for a strong price-performance ratio and manufacturing in Europe. The Pick it PRO is a moving magnet cartridge with a lively, robust sound and a wide dynamic range. Its 4 mV output at 1 kHz suits any MM phono input.
Its elliptical stylus with an r/R 8/18 µm tip radius follows the groove with a tracking ability of 70 µm at 315 Hz. Frequency response spans 20 to 20,000 Hz within ±2 dB. Channel separation reaches 22 dB at 1 kHz.
The cartridge uses the 1/2-inch mounting standard and a transparent body design. Its threaded holes allow simple mounting without nuts. It weighs 7.2 g, with 18 mm between stylus tip and mounting surface.
Recommended tracking force is 2.0 g within a 1.8 to 2.2 g range, with a 20° tracking angle. Pro-Ject recommends a 47 kΩ load and 150 to 300 pF capacitance on the phono input. Compliance is 12 µm/mN, with 750 ohms of internal resistance and 450 mH of inductance.
