Low-output MC cartridge with 8 ohm Alnico generator, Shibata stylus on a tapered aluminium cantilever, 8.6 grams.

The SL MK II generator is the one used in the Umami Blue and the ML: Alnico magnet and cross coils wound in 30 micrometre high purity copper, for an impedance of 8 ohms. The reduced moving mass improves the signal-to-noise ratio and widens the list of phono stages that load it correctly, from 80 ohms.
The tapered aluminium tube of the MK II gains stiffness and loses mass at the tip. The groove therefore passes more information to the stylus, with a trackability of 70 micrometres at 2 grams and a dynamic compliance of 10 x 10-6 cm/dyne.
The Shibata diamond extends playback to 32 kHz and spreads contact pressure over a longer edge than an elliptical. Channel separation holds at 28 dB at 1 kHz, with channel balance within 1.5 dB.
The body uses the non-resonant shape of the M series, painted in matt black elastomer resin. A threaded brass plate closes it and brings the cartridge to 8.6 grams, a weight that improves coupling to the tonearm and extends compatibility to heavier headshells.
