MC cartridge with duralumin Auricle body, boron cantilever and Microline diamond, cross-coil Alnico generator.
The Auricle body, specific to the Umami series, is CNC-machined from duralumin A7075 and left open on its sides. The open structure drains mechanical energy away instead of sending it back to the generator.
The Umami Blue takes its boron cantilever and precision-cut Microline diamond from the Umami Red. Boron stiffens the link between stylus and generator, and the Microline profile follows the fine modulations of the groove.
The generator is the one from the ML: Alnico magnet and permalloy armature with cross coils, wound in high purity copper. Coil impedance is 8 ohms for an output of 0.4 mV.
The chassis has an MTP enamel finish and a POM insert. Both materials damp resonance bands that differ from those of duralumin. The main parts are made and assembled by hand at Excel Sound.
