The LCD-S20 is Audeze's first closed-back headphone to feature SLAM, a patent-pending technology that extends and energizes the bass without saturating it, even at high volume. Distortion stays under 0.1% at 100 dB SPL. The closed, acoustically damped earcups block outside noise and prevent leakage into a nearby microphone.
Behind the grille sits a 90-millimeter planar magnetostatic driver with an Ultra-Thin Uniforce diaphragm and Fazor phase management. This combination gives the LCD-S20 an impedance of just 18 ohms and a sensitivity of 93 dB/1mW, efficient enough to be driven by a portable DAC.
The headphones weigh 550 grams; the leather suspension headband spreads this weight across the whole head for fatigue-free extended listening. The gel-filled leather earpads attach magnetically for easy replacement. The quoted frequency response covers 10 Hz to 40 kHz, well beyond the audible spectrum.
The LCD-S20 ships with a detachable 2.5-meter cable that connects to either earcup, plus a 3.5 to 6.3 mm adapter, so you can move from a portable player to a desktop amp without changing headphones. The magnesium, aluminum and steel structure holds up well over time.
