The Kyte leaves the wooden box behind: Rega moulds its cabinet in thermoset phenolic resin, a naturally very stiff material. Inside, ceramic plates and a cross brace stiffen the walls further. Unwanted resonances are kept away from the signal, which benefits dynamics and bass control.
Treble is handled by the ZRR tweeter, a drive unit designed by Rega. It works with an MX-125 bass-mid driver with a treated cone, hand-built in England. Rega also winds its own crossover components, keeping the whole acoustic chain in house.
The bass-reflex enclosure vents through a rear port: the closer the speaker sits to a wall, the more weight the bass gains. A rear foot, supplied with its screws, fixes to the back so the speaker sits level on a shelf or cabinet. For a conventional speaker stand, Rega offers a metal adaptor sold separately.
Each speaker measures 18.8 cm wide, 32.5 cm high and 23.2 cm deep with its foot, and weighs 3.73 kg. Nominal impedance is 6 ohms and sensitivity 89 dB. Rega quotes a power handling of 80 W per channel, given as a guide that depends on the amplifier used. The listed price is for one speaker: stereo listening needs two.
