The C 379 is built on a customised version of the HybridDigital UcD output stage, wired as a fully balanced bridge. It delivers 2 x 80 W continuous into 8 and 4 ohms, and its power supply provides more than 120 W instantaneously to keep up with musical transients. A switch on the back puts it into bridge mode, where it exceeds 300 W in mono into 8 ohms.
The digital section is built around a 32-bit ESS SABRE ES9028 DAC, designed for wide dynamic range and very low distortion. Two optical and two coaxial inputs take players and set-top boxes, while the HDMI eARC input brings in the sound from the TV. The TV remote then also controls the amplifier volume.
The rear panel offers two MDC2 slots, the second generation of NAD's modular construction, so the unit can evolve over time. The optional MDC2 BluOS-D module adds BluOS multi-room streaming at 24-bit/192 kHz over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, Apple AirPlay 2 and Dirac Live room correction. The BluOS app then gives access to more than 20 services, including Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and Spotify.
A turntable with an MM cartridge plugs straight into the phono stage, with accurate RIAA equalisation and very low noise. Two line inputs, a pre-out, two subwoofer outputs and two pairs of speaker terminals complete the panel, alongside built-in aptX HD Bluetooth. On the front, the separate headphone amplifier on a 6.35 mm jack has a low output impedance to suit most headphones.
