Moon 850P preamplifier and its separate power supply

Two separate chassis

The 850P spreads its functions over two enclosures. One houses the power supply, the control electronics and the display, the other holds nothing but the audio circuits. No radiation from the power supply reaches the signal.

Forty filtering stages

Each integrated circuit in the audio path has its own DC filtering choke, forty stages in all. Signal-to-noise ratio reaches 130 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Crosstalk also falls to -130 dB at 1 kHz.

Eight line inputs

Three pairs of balanced XLR inputs and five unbalanced RCA pairs are available. Each can take a gain offset of plus or minus 10 dB. Each can also be configured in direct mode for home cinema integration.

Reference measurements

Total harmonic distortion is limited to 0.0005 % from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Frequency response covers 5 Hz to 100 kHz within plus or minus 0.1 dB. The set weighs 67 kilos at shipping.
