The NAIT XS 3 delivers 70 W into 8 Ω. Compared with the 2013 NAIT XS 2, the voltage gain stage runs twice as fast, which doubles the reaction speed of the output stage. The second-stage transistors have been optimised, removing the cascode transistor and reducing the stabilisation required.
The three-stage phono input accepts 5 mV moving magnet cartridges, at 47 kΩ and 470 pF. The RIAA equalisation capacitors are through-hole film types, chosen for their low microphonic pickup. Equalisation extends beyond the audio band and the overload headroom stays wide.
Four inputs take either RCA or 5-pin DIN (CD, Tuner, Stream, AV), and a fifth DIN input is reserved for Aux, with a sensitivity of 130 mV. Two fixed-level DIN outputs, an RCA subwoofer output and a variable-level DIN preamp output make it possible to add a power amplifier. Updates go through the Mini-USB B port.
The 6.35 mm headphone jack is driven by a single-ended class A amplifier. Volume runs through an Alps Blue Velvet potentiometer and input selection through reed relays. The chassis measures 43.2 × 30.1 × 7 cm, weighs 8.5 kg and is operated with the NARCOM-5 infrared remote control.
