The CI 8-120 DSP V2 delivers over 120 W per channel into 8 ohms with all eight channels driven, according to NAD's FDP power rating. In bridged mode it provides over 200 W per channel into 8 ohms, enough to drive architectural subwoofers. It therefore suits in-wall and in-ceiling speakers and medium to large rooms.
The built-in DSP tailors the sound to the speakers and to each room, with adjustment of levels, tonal balance and crossovers for an integrated subwoofer. Peak and RMS limiters protect the drivers. Everything is set from a web interface whose dashboard shows the unit status, inputs and outputs and zone configuration in real time.
The output stage is based on a customised version of the Hypex UcD module, at the heart of NAD's HybridDigital technology. Its efficiency limits heat and power consumption, and distortion stays below 0.05 % from 1 to 100 W. Peak current exceeds 20 A to keep control of hard-to-drive speakers.
The 1U-high chassis takes up little room in the equipment rack. It switches on when it detects an audio signal or receives a 3 to 30 V trigger voltage, then draws 0.5 W in standby. IR inputs and outputs make control from the home automation system easier.
