Wireless receiver with dedicated DAC

The FiiO UTWS5 is a true wireless Bluetooth amplifier receiver that clips onto wired earphones with 0.78 mm 2-pin connectors to make them wireless. It is the first true wireless receiver to carry an independent AK4332 DAC. Against the previous generation, its amplification shows a lower noise floor and 40 % more output power.

Fitted with a Qualcomm QCC5141 chip, the UTWS5 supports Bluetooth 5.2 and the Snapdragon Sound suite. aptX Adaptive allows listening at 96 kHz/24-bit with low latency, while aptX Voice handles wideband calls. Third-generation TWS Mirroring cuts latency and allows smooth switching between the two earpieces; two devices can be connected at once.

Charging case and battery life

The supplied charging case holds an 800 mAh battery giving up to 30 hours of total battery life, that is three to four charges of the earpieces. It accepts wireless charging, which does away with cables. Its construction protects the earpieces and takes in a wide range of earphones mounted on the UTWS5. (Wireless charger not included.)

Settings, app and water resistance

The UTWS5 offers 32 volume steps and a 10-band parametric equaliser driven from the FiiO Control and FiiO Music apps, with firmware updates. Its large touch button was designed for better responsiveness and fewer accidental presses. IPX4 certification protects it from water and perspiration. Earphones not included.
