Lab12 DAC1 Reference digital-to-analogue converter, handcrafted in Greece. Eight non-oversampling Philips multibit chips and two 6922 output tubes accept up to 24 bit/192 kHz.

The front of the DAC1 Reference has two Nissei analogue VU meters, one per channel. They follow the output level in real time. A row of indicators shows the selected input and the incoming sample rate.
Conversion relies on eight Philips multibit DAC chips mounted in parallel. They work without oversampling, right after a carefully laid-out digital receiver. The DAC accepts signals up to 24 bit and 192 kHz.
Current-to-voltage conversion goes through two 6922 dual triodes. Six separate regulated power supplies and a toroidal transformer isolate each stage. Response runs from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with distortion below 0.15 % and a 2.5 Vrms output level.
The rear panel takes two coaxial inputs, one Toslink optical input and one USB input. The analogue output comes on RCA and unbalanced XLR, with a balanced version offered by Lab12. The 43 x 11 x 29 cm unit weighs 7.5 kg.
