Two Ruark NS+ 75 mm wideband speakers sit in a twin bass-reflex cabinet. The Class AB amplifier delivers 18 W rated, and the typical in-room frequency response covers 50 Hz to 20 kHz. Bass and treble adjust from −6 dB to +6 dB, and loudness and 3D audio can be switched on as needed.
The R2 Mk4 receives Internet radio, DAB/DAB+ and FM with RDS (87.5 to 108 MHz). Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n opens up Spotify Connect, Deezer and Amazon Music, and a podcast source is built in. Bluetooth 5.2, in SBC codec, links a phone directly.
The colour TFT display adjusts its brightness automatically. The RotoDial knob and the Oktiv app, on iOS and Android, control the unit, with 8 presets per mode. Two alarms can be set to daily, weekdays, weekends or custom, with sleep and snooze functions, and the real-time clock keeps time on an internal battery.
The USB-C port supplies 5 V 1 A to charge a device and plays MP3 files up to 48 kHz 320 kbps, from a FAT32-formatted stick. A line input and a headphone output in 3.5 mm jack, a 75 Ω F aerial socket and a Kensington slot complete the connections. The lacquered cabinet measures 340 × 175 × 135 mm and weighs 2.9 kg, in Espresso with Walnut grille or in Light Cream with Ash grille.
