The Speaker Box 12 E Carbon pairs a 1 inch silk dome tweeter with two 5 inch drivers made of a fibre glass and carbon composite. In the 2.5-way layout, the lower driver handles only the bass to fill the room. Everything sits in a very stiff MDF cabinet designed to avoid resonance.
Pro-Ject quotes a flat frequency response from 42 Hz to 20 kHz. The brand describes warm and clear mids carried by solid, punchy bass. The soundstage stays natural and coherent.
The gold-plated double terminal block allows bi-wiring and bi-amping, which powers the woofers and the tweeter from separate amplifiers. Pro-Ject states that this adds clarity and reduces the risk of distortion. With 4 ohms and 89 dB (1 W / 1 m), it calls for 20 to 200 W, ideally a Stereo Box DS3 or a MaiA DS3.
A separate sand-filled cabinet lowers the centre of gravity, absorbs vibration and steadies the 110 cm high, 16.5 cm wide and 22 cm deep column. It comes in five satin colours, black, white, fir green, golden yellow and steel blue, and in real walnut veneer. No screws are visible on the front, and the black grilles attach with magnets. It is sold individually, so a stereo pair needs two.
