Three-way architecture

Two 7-inch bass drivers ruled out a two-way layout: their radiating area forbids a crossover around 2 to 3 kHz, and a 2.5-way configuration would have tilted the radiation axis downwards. EPOS therefore chose a three-way with a dedicated 130 mm midrange, crossed at 330 Hz then at 2700 Hz by modified LKR filters of the 2nd and 4th order. Impedance is compensated through the midrange to suit tube amplifiers.

Two seven-inch bass drivers

Both bass units share the motor and basket of the ES14N but take a straight cone rather than a curved one, a choice that serves the bottom end. A large inverted dust cap stiffens the diaphragm further. Aluminium demodulation rings stabilise the inductance of the 36 mm voice coil, which keeps the crossover free of modulation. The jade green finish joins black, white and walnut.

Port under the base

The 8 cm diameter port opens under the plinth, which allows a length sufficient to tune the cabinet to 30 Hz. Pressure-equalising holes placed halfway along suppress the tube resonance and lower the parasitic output by about 10 dB compared with a conventional port. The opening in the plinth stays wide enough that the bass does not suffer if you stand the loudspeaker straight on the floor, without spikes.

Tilted sandwich cabinet

The cabinet is slightly tilted to time-align the drivers. Its construction is a sandwich of two MDF panels bonded by a high-damping glue layer; the front reaches 50 mm thick, formed of two 10 mm sandwich panels and a 30 mm chambered MDF panel. The midrange has its own compartment with a triangular back, and the crossover has one of its own behind the tweeter, sheltered from high pressure.
