ARCAM R45 floorstanding speaker in a large listening room

Bass down to 30 Hz, 3 × 165 mm MCC Woofers

Three 165 mm Micro Ceramic Composite woofers — a combined 80 cm² of diaphragm area — extend down to 30 Hz (±6 dB) through two tuned rear ports. This is sufficient to reproduce the range of a large pipe organ, double bass, and kick drum without a dedicated subwoofer in a normal-sized room. With a sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V/1 m, 30 W from a mid-range integrated amplifier is enough for a comfortable background volume.

165 mm Dedicated MCC Midrange

The 165 mm Deep Ceramic Composite midrange covers 275 Hz–1.7 kHz — the band where the human voice, piano, plucked strings, and brass instruments concentrate their defining harmonics. A 165 mm driver dedicated solely to the midrange is exceptional for this size class, typically reserved for three- or four-column high-end setups. It delivers the density and presence that 130 mm midranges or upward-steered tweeters cannot replicate.

3-Way Crossover at 275 Hz / 1.7 kHz

The crossover frequencies are lower than on the R35 (350 Hz / 2.1 kHz), which assigns more of the mid-bass range to the 165 mm woofer, better equipped with diaphragm area to handle it accurately. The active crossover on each channel uses carefully selected components for phase and group behavior, verified by HARMAN in anechoic labs. A nominal 6 Ω impedance is stable and free of low-frequency dips, compatible with typical 8 Ω stereo amplifiers.

Partner SA45 and AEQ

ARCAM designates the SA45 as the reference amplifier for the R45: the two devices are designed together to maximize performance. AEQ (Anechoic EQ) is automatically activated upon R45 detection, compensating the speaker's measured anechoic response curves with a specific equalization filter built into the SA45. The AVA35 AV amps from the Radia range also activate AEQ, making the R45 a coherent choice for a full ARCAM high-end home cinema setup.
