The FORUS 55 is the floorstanding model at the top of Argon Audio's FORUS series. It stands 86 cm tall, 17 cm wide and 26.6 cm deep, a small footprint for a floorstander. Its MDF cabinet weighs 12.15 kg. It is sold individually, so a stereo setup needs two.
Two 5.25-inch paper cone woofers are paired with a 1-inch soft dome tweeter driven by a neodymium magnet. The crossover splits the signal at 1500 Hz and 3000 Hz. Frequency response runs from 45 Hz to 20 kHz at ± 3 dB, for full bass without a subwoofer.
The FORUS 55 comes in black, white and walnut, three PVC finishes over an MDF cabinet. The lacquered front panel takes magnetically attached front grilles. Its 88 dB sensitivity and 4 ohm impedance make it easy to match with an amplifier.
Argon Audio recommends an amplifier of 50 to 120 W, such as its SA1 MK2 and SA2 models. With an AV receiver, the FORUS 55 handles the front left and right channels of a 5.1 or 7.1 system. The brand suggests placing it 20 to 50 cm from the rear wall. A subwoofer connects to the amplifier for extra impact in home cinema.
