The CD5si replaces the CD5i and uses a Burr Brown PCM1793 converter, closely related to the one in the NDX network player. The DAC clock is more stable, the power supply rails run at a higher voltage and the analogue filter has been redesigned. The line output delivers 2.1 V RMS at 1 kHz.
The drawer and transport mechanism follow the design of the CDX2, Naim's high-end CD player, to keep resonance and inertia low during playback. The laser optics are new. The player reads Red Book audio CDs as well as CD-Rs.
The digital and analogue sections each have their own power supply, which isolates the most sensitive circuits. The rigid extruded aluminium case resists external vibration. Power consumption is 15 W in normal use.
Four front-panel buttons control playback, mirrored by the RC5 infrared remote control. The chassis measures 43.2 × 30.1 × 7 cm and weighs 5.9 kg, the same footprint as the NAIT 5si amplifier designed to partner it.
