Lyngdorf CD-2 player dedicated to audio CD playback only. Its Wolfson WM8740 converter feeds RCA and XLR outputs, complemented by a coaxial and an optical output.

The CD-2 is designed for audio CD playback only, without the clocks and video architecture of multi-format players. It draws on the experience Lyngdorf gained with its digital amplifiers and earlier CD players.
The switch-mode power supply designed by Lyngdorf is filtered and decoupled to deliver low-noise current to the digital and analogue circuits. Four independent secondary windings keep the supplies separate, which keeps digital noise away from the analogue stage. The whole chassis and the back panel are electrically connected.
Conversion is built around the Wolfson WM8740 chip, combined with audiophile-grade operational amplifiers. It runs internally at 96 kHz and 24 bit and feeds a single-ended and balanced output stage. The signal-to-noise ratio reaches 114 dB (A) with 0.0018 % distortion.
The CD-2 offers a 3.5 V RCA output and a 7 V XLR output, both adjustable. A galvanically isolated coaxial output delivers up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, an optical output up to 96 kHz and 24 bit. It can therefore also serve as a transport for a converter or an amplifier with a digital input.
