CD player and DAC

The Unico CD Uno combines a high-specification DAC with a CD-Loader disc mechanism. It plays discs and, from an external source or a computer, PCM and DSD files in today's formats and sampling rates. Its three-part front panel, with white LEDs and a white display, introduced a new look in the Unico range.

OLED display, three filters

A white 128 x 64 graphic OLED display shows the source and settings. Three digital filters can be selected with the remote control: fast roll-off linear phase, fast roll-off minimum phase or slow roll-off linear phase. Absolute phase can also be selected.

USB, Toslink and Bluetooth

The USB 2.0 input accepts PCM from 44.1 to 384 kHz at 16 to 32 bits as well as DSD128, and it is DSD256 ready. The Toslink optical input goes up to 96 kHz at 24 bits, and a Bluetooth 3.0 receiver built into the chassis receives music wirelessly at 44.1 or 48 kHz. An S/PDIF digital output at 0.5 Vpp into 75 Ω can feed another converter.

ECC82 valve output

The output stage relies on an ECC82 double triode in pure Class A, followed by a discrete solid-state buffer, also in Class A, for a low output impedance. A solid-state output can be selected instead. Conversion is handled by an ESS Sabre ES9018K2M, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 125 dB and THD+N of 0.0003%. The valves are covered for 3 months, the unit for 2 years.
