Red Book slot-in drive

The CD Box S3 is dedicated entirely to audio CDs and optimised for 1:1 playback of the Red Book CD-DA standard. A pure CD player often plays stereo discs better than a DVD or Blu-ray player. Its slot-in mechanism draws the disc in smoothly and playback starts after a few seconds.

32-bit/384 kHz converter

Conversion is handled by a PCM5102 chip working up to 32 bits and 384 kHz. The RCA output delivers 2.0 Vrms to any preamplifier, with a response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at ± 0.15 dB. A coaxial S/PDIF output also lets an external DAC take over the conversion.

Aluminium case and display

The full aluminium casework introduces Pro-Ject's S3 size: 20.6 cm wide, 5.5 cm high and 15.3 cm deep, for 1.33 kg. The 1.54-inch display with colour inversion shows the playback information. The player is operated from the front buttons or the supplied remote control, in a silver or black finish.
