The turntable leaves the factory with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge and elliptical stylus, mounted on a removable bayonet headshell. The height-adjustable tonearm pivots on two low-friction precision bearings. The built-in phono stage does away with a separate one: the turntable connects to the amplifier's line input.
Alongside its gold-plated RCA sockets, the PLATINUM Automatic EAS transmits over Bluetooth 5.2, aptX HD included. With no cable running to the amplifier, it can go wherever the room allows. The USB port and its analogue-to-digital converter send the signal to a computer to archive a vinyl collection as files.
At the end of a side, the tonearm lifts by itself and playback stops, sparing both stylus and records. The DC motor drives the platter by belt, monitored by optical speed detection housed in the platter's spindle axis. The control loop corrects rotation continuously at both speeds.
The cast aluminium platter sits on a matt lacquered plinth with rounded edges, in black or white. An acrylic lid keeps the dust off. Designed and developed in Germany, the turntable measures about 423 x 125 x 345 mm and weighs 5.2 kg, with RCA cable and power supply included.
