8K picture and HDR

The HDMI 2.1a output sends pictures up to 8K at 60 Hz, in 12 bits with the BT.2020 colour space, in HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision is sent in player-led LLDV mode or TV-led standard mode, and the VS10 engine adjusts to each type of video content. The frame rate switches automatically, 23.976 Hz included, for local playback as well as streaming.

Amlogic S928X-K platform

The Amlogic S928X-K processor combines Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, with 6 GB of DDR4 and 64 GB of eMMC storage running Android 11. It decodes AV1, VP9, H.265, AVS3 and AVS2 up to 8K at 60 frames per second. The aluminium alloy housing measures 18.9 x 12.9 x 2.5 cm and weighs 550 g.

A SATA 3.0 port on the side connects an external hard drive of up to 16 TB with the supplied cable, next to three USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports. An external CD-ROM drive plays original CDs, and BD and UHD Blu-ray menus as well as complex MPLS branching are supported. Poster Wall 4.0 organises films with trailers, and Music Player 8.0 plays DSD (SACD ISO, DSF, DFF), WAV, APE and DTS losslessly.

Outputs and control

The rear panel groups the power switch, the 12 V input, an optical output, a 3.5 mm audio jack output, the HDMI output, Gigabit Ethernet and a USB 3.0 port, and USB also works as a digital audio output. Dolby Atmos passes unchanged over HDMI, and Dolby and DTS formats are decoded up to Dolby TrueHD Atmos. The player is controlled via RS-232, infrared, HDMI CEC, Control4, Wake-on-LAN or the Zidoo Controller app, including landscape mode on iPad and Android tablets.
