The drive makes bit-for-bit copies of Red Book audio CDs, CDs and CD-Rs, then files the tracks in the library. Music can then be searched by title, artist, genre or track in the app. Connected to a DAC or to an amplifier with a digital input, the unit also plays the ripped discs.
A removable caddy takes a hard drive or an SSD, to be fitted by the owner as the unit ships without a drive. According to Naim, it can hold up to 100,000 tracks and manage larger collections on external drives. Two USB Type A ports, on the front and the rear, add further storage.
The aluminium case measures 21.4 cm wide, 26.5 cm deep and 9.5 cm high, and weighs 7 kg. Its finned sides act as a heatsink. Power consumption is 6.7 W in normal use.
The library streams to up to 12 network players via UPnP. The unit connects over 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet and updates by cable through the Focal & Naim app. Its BNC S/PDIF digital output handles up to 192 kHz; 352.8 and 384 kHz files are down-sampled to 176.4 and 192 kHz.
