Many record brooms drift towards the centre of the platter and fall out of sync with the tonearm, a phenomenon known as skating. The Sweep it S2 counters this with a neodymium magnet housed at the top of its cylinder, which attracts the iron core acting as counterweight. The distance between the two is chosen to deliver a precise stabilising force.
The Sweep it S2 was developed in collaboration with Klaus Mick and uses his patented stabilisation technology. The paramagnetic aluminium brush arm acts as an extra spacer between the magnet and the counterweight. Its natural hair brush has extremely low electronegativity and cleans the grooves during playback.
The height of the broom can be adjusted over about 1 cm and locked with a set screw on the base. This lets you align the arm horizontally with the platter, which ensures the correct tracking force of about 6 g. The arm measures 226 mm and the base 46 mm in diameter, for a weight of 430 g.
The broom fits in either of the two left-hand corners of the turntable, depending on its shape. Ideally, the brush lines up with the centre spindle of the platter. Deviations of 1.5 to 2 cm are compensated by the design of the Sweep it S2. It comes in a black or silver metal finish.
