Ventless ABR loading

The NOVA 12 replaces the bass-reflex port with a 300 mm ABR auxiliary radiator with an SPL paper cone. This radiator fires downward, on a double suspension, and works with the active driver. With no port, the subwoofer avoids turbulence, chuffing noise and compression. Intended for medium to large rooms, it reaches down to 28 Hz at -6 dB.

300 mm driver

The 300 mm (12-inch) long-excursion driver sits on the front face. Aluminium shorting rings are built into the motor. They reduce inductance modulation as the voice coil moves in the magnetic gap, and so distortion, and transients stay sharp. The subwoofer weighs 29.3 kg.

Class-D amplification and DSP

The high-current Class-D amplifier delivers 280 W rated and 770 W peak, enough to drive the large 300 mm driver. The DSP drives a dynamic equaliser that adjusts the response to the listening level. Two modes are built in: Music, faster and better matched to the main speakers, and Cinema, more expansive for film soundtracks. On standby, consumption stays below 0.5 W.

Settings and connections

The crossover frequency is adjustable from 40 to 160 Hz, with phase and level controls. The stereo line input (2 x RCA) accepts LFE on the R channel, and the high-level input uses four 4 mm terminals. A stereo line output (2 x RCA), a 12 V trigger and a USB update port complete the connections. The subwoofer measures 435 mm wide, 443 mm high with base and feet, and 487 mm deep with grille and terminals.
