On the Orion, the 21 cm 21MT driver is mounted vertically and radiates downwards over 360°. This position reduces spurious noise, attenuates internal standing waves and makes placement relative to the walls less sensitive. The cabinet stands on four feet that lift it off the floor.
The Orion covers 35 to 200 Hz, and its crossover adjusts from 30 to 180 Hz to blend with the main speakers. The amplifier housed at the back delivers 200 W rated and 400 W peak. The bass channel thus keeps the same dynamic range as the rest of the system.
Cabasse places the Orion in its MC170 range, next to the Antigua MC170 and the Jersey MC170, for which it handles the bass in stereo as in 5.1. It measures 41.5 x 30.5 x 43 cm and weighs 14 kg.
Three finishes are offered: walnut texture, dark oak and white lacquer. The two wood finishes make the subwoofer look like furniture rather than equipment. Cabasse also makes an All Black version, which is not offered here.
