Sealed cabinet

A port lets the bass trail behind the signal. The Kube 8 MIE does without one: the driver works in a sealed cabinet, and the trapped air acts as a spring that pulls it back into position the moment the signal stops. Extension stops at 34 Hz at −6 dB, a little higher than a bass-reflex model of the same size, but every bass note begins and ends when the score says so.

200 mm driver

The 200 mm (8 inch) cone moves air that the woofer of a floorstanding speaker never will. Behind it, a 300 W RMS Class D amplifier keeps the cone under control up to 105 dB of maximum output. That reserve counts less for volume than for what happens below it: at normal listening levels the amplifier is never straining.

Music Integrity Engine

A subwoofer in a corner booms, a subwoofer halfway along a wall fades away. The MIE processor of the Kube 8 MIE corrects what the room adds: five placement profiles, a low-pass filter adjustable from 40 to 140 Hz and an LFE mode are set from the rear panel. The adjustment is made by ear, from the sofa, in a few minutes.

Connections and format

Two RCA phono inputs and a speaker-level input cover the integrated amplifier as well as the home cinema processor. An expansion connector takes the KW1 wireless kit, sold separately, when running a cable to the subwoofer is out of the question. The cabinet measures 293 × 293 × 310 mm for 9.4 kg — small enough to slide under a desk or against a low unit.
