The T/5x opens Serie T/x with an 8-inch (200 mm) active driver that fires towards the floor. Bass strikes the floor and spreads evenly through the room, giving the subwoofer the foundation of a larger model. This layout also does away with a grille, for a clean cabinet 30 cm wide, 30.7 cm high and 31.3 cm deep.
The 125 W amplifier runs in high-current Class A/B, with a large toroidal transformer and a generously sized power supply. This reserve lets it go well beyond its rated power on a film explosion or a kick drum hit. It suits medium living rooms and even some open-plan spaces, which a smaller subwoofer cannot handle.
Like every REL, the T/5x connects to the speakers through a High Level connection on a Speakon socket: it receives the same signal and takes on their character. The .1/LFE input works at the same time, with its own level control, so music and films need no rewiring. The Arrow wireless module, sold separately, fits on the rear to do away with the cable.
The cabinet receives five coats of gloss lacquer, black or white, and stands on machined aluminium feet engraved with the brand name. Compared with the T/i generation, its internal volume has grown and its corners are rounded to avoid pockets of pressure. The subwoofer weighs 14.3 kg and is sold individually.
