The Vinyl NRS Box S3 is aimed at damaged records that have become too noisy to enjoy. The line signal is digitised at 24 bits and 96 kHz, then handled by a dedicated algorithm. An LED shows when the input level is too high, which the -6 dB switch corrects.
The algorithm detects the high-frequency peaks that mark crackles and attenuates them by up to 8 dB. Sensitivity is set with the front potentiometer, with an LED for feedback. A stronger intensity mode reaches 12 dB between 2 and 20 kHz.
The Vinyl Noise Reduction System splits the signal into two frequency bands and feeds them into two expanders. Hiss and turntable drive noise drop by up to 8 dB, with no audible noise modulation. This single preset is engaged with one press of the VNRS button.
When switched off, the unit links its inputs to its outputs galvanically, with no processing at all. It is inserted between the phono preamp and the preamp or integrated amp, via RCA sockets. The all-aluminium S3-line case is 10.3 cm wide and weighs 340 g.
