Moon 491 network player and preamplifier in a stereo system

Command centre

The 491 brings network playback, preamplification, digital-to-analogue conversion and a phono stage together in a single chassis. It holds the central position in the Compass Collection and pairs with the 461 power amplifier. A large colour display shows the source and the current level.

MiND 2 platform

MiND 2 is the network playback platform developed by MOON. It opens access to the main music services from the MOON MiND Controller app. The MOONLink connection runs over a double Ethernet port and ties the MOON units together.

MM and MC phono stage

A built-in phono preamplifier accepts moving-magnet as well as moving-coil cartridges. A turntable therefore connects directly, without a separate stage. The analogue section stays in the same chassis as the digital one.

Measurements and upgrades

Total harmonic distortion plus noise stands at 0.0004 %, the signal-to-noise ratio at 120 dB and crosstalk at -120 dB, for a frequency response of 10 Hz to 200 kHz. A modular card prepares for future upgrades and a service USB port allows firmware to be updated directly. The unit ships with the CRM-4 remote and accepts the BRM-1.
