The front panel of the Unico DM v2 is machined from a 15 mm thick block of aluminium, and a 2 mm aluminium cover wraps around the whole amplifier. The Midnight Black and Velvet Gold finishes come with wooden inserts that echo the original Unico logo. The Unison Research logo acts as the power button.
The Unico DM v2 uses a dual-mono architecture: each channel has its own 750 VA encapsulated toroidal transformer, potted in resin and shielded against electromagnetic interference. The two channels thus stay fully separate. In bridged mono mode, both power supplies are connected in parallel for an even larger energy reserve.
The first stage, in Class A, uses two ECC82 / 12AU7 Gold Lion valves and gives the amplifier its character. A second solid-state stage adapts the signal for the power stage, a complementary push-pull of three parallel MOSFET pairs. This stage introduces Class A-AB biasing together with A.S.H.A., a technology developed by Unison Research. The valves are covered for 3 months, the unit for 2 years.
In stereo, the Unico DM v2 delivers 220 W per channel into 8 Ω and 340 W into 4 Ω, measured at 1 kHz and 1% distortion. Bridged to mono, it provides 650 W continuous into both 8 Ω and 4 Ω. It accepts an unbalanced RCA or a balanced XLR input, and its 4 + 4 binding posts allow speaker bi-wiring. A remote power-on input and output keep it in step with the preamplifier.
