The Clear AES/EBU transmits digital audio over a balanced link, from an AES/EBU output to the XLR input of a DAC. Three 25.5 AWG conductors form an equilateral triad, separated by antistatic LDPE air tubes and held in a carbon-loaded PTFE tape. This geometry sets the impedance at the 110 ohms of the standard, under a 9.01 mm TPR jacket.
The Clear AES/EBU is terminated with Cardas CG XLR plugs. Every cable is terminated by hand in Bandon, Oregon. Cardas claims a more open, more dynamic sound and a neutral tonal balance.
The CG plug, taken apart, shows where the cable's three conductors connect. Each follows the Matched Propagation construction, around a Kevlar core. The strands of Grade 1 oxygen-free copper, 99.9999% pure, range from 41 to 39 AWG, carry an SPN enamel and are insulated in ultra-thin extruded PTFE.
