Low-output moving-coil cartridge with Alnico magnets, elliptical stylus and aluminium cantilever, 5 grams.

The EL uses Alnico magnets, an alloy of aluminium, nickel and cobalt usually found further up the range. The magnetic field stays stable when the armature moves fast, which gives voices and strings a steadier tonal texture. Each unit is assembled by hand in Japan.
The EL puts out 0.5 mV at 1 kHz with a 30 ohm coil. That level calls for an MC phono stage or a high-gain input, but it keeps out much of the noise a high-output coil drags along with it. Load impedance starts from 400 ohms.
The elliptical diamond sits on an aluminium cantilever. The assembly tracks 70 micrometres at 2 grams and covers 15 Hz to 25 kHz, with 25 dB of channel separation at 1 kHz.
The EL weighs 5 grams, like the EH. The light tonearms of entry-level turntables balance it without extra weight, so you do not need to change counterweight to move to moving coil.
