A 17 cm coaxial driver

The BC17 sits in a sphere half the size of its elder, the Baltic. One driver covers 95 to 20,000 Hz, with an internal crossover at 1,600 Hz between midbass and treble: there are no two sources to align in space, so no favoured listening angle. Sensitivity reaches 90 dB from a 22 cm sphere.

Spatially coherent source

Cabasse calls SCS the principle that follows from the coaxial layout: one source, one radiating point across the whole band, from 95 to 20,000 Hz. What it changes is mostly heard off axis — in a living room where nobody sits dead centre, timbres do not shift from one chair to the next and the image stays where the mix put it.

Brushed aluminium base

A brushed aluminium base holds the sphere at 22.4 cm tall for 5.5 kg. The mass matters: it keeps the speaker from walking backwards on a shelf when the bass works. This is the free-standing version — on a shelf, either side of a television, or as the centre of a home cinema system.

Built in Brittany

Riga 2 comes out of Cabasse's Brittany workshops. Two matte finishes are catalogued, pearl white and pearl black, with no gloss lacquer: on a spherical cabinet standing in full light, matte avoids the reflections that show every fingerprint. Impedance drops to 4.1 ohms, which most integrated amplifiers take without complaint.
