The FORUS 5 is the larger bookshelf model in Argon Audio's FORUS series. Its MDF cabinet measures 27.2 cm high, 16.8 cm wide and 21.1 cm deep, and weighs 3.75 kg. It houses a bigger woofer than the FORUS 4 for a fuller sound. It is sold individually, so a stereo setup needs two.
A 5.25-inch paper cone woofer works with a 1-inch soft dome tweeter fitted with a neodymium magnet. The crossover hands over from one to the other at 2700 Hz. Frequency response reaches down to 55 Hz and up to 20 kHz at ± 3 dB.
The FORUS 5 comes in black, white and walnut, three PVC finishes over an MDF cabinet. The lacquered front panel takes magnetically attached front grilles. Rubber feet are supplied, and a wall mount is built into the back.
As a 4 ohm passive speaker, the FORUS 5 connects to an external amplifier: Argon Audio recommends 40 to 100 W, like its SA1 MK2 and SA2 amplifiers. With an AV receiver, it also works as a front speaker in a 5.1 or 7.1 system. A subwoofer connects to the amplifier, and the brand suggests leaving 10 to 30 cm between the speaker and the rear wall.
