The output stage is built on UHC-MOS transistors in a single push-pull configuration. It delivers 80 W per channel into 8 ohms and 160 W into 4 ohms, with 0.01 % harmonic distortion. It can therefore drive a wide range of speakers and load impedances.
The phono stage accepts MM cartridges, 2.5 mV into 47 kohms, and MC cartridges, 200 µV into 100 ohms. Its short, high-gain circuit limits distortion. The signal-to-noise ratio reaches 89 dB in MM and 74 dB in MC.
Four ES9018K2M chips convert the digital inputs: three optical, one coaxial and one asynchronous USB-B. Over USB, PCM reaches 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD 11.2 MHz. Ultra AL32 processing oversamples the signal and smooths the waveform.
Analogue mode switches off the digital circuits, and Source Direct removes the tone controls from the signal path. The RCA inputs are machined from gold-plated brass, and the speaker binding posts are the same as on the AVR-A1H. Built in Shirakawa, Japan, the unit weighs 24.6 kg and comes in black or silver.
