The RA280 inherits the GaN technology of the RA180: gallium nitride transistors that cut the switching dead time of a silicon-transistor Class D design tenfold. Two separate modules, working like two mono blocks, deliver 250 W per channel into 8 and 4 ohms. An in-house LC filter keeps attenuation to 1 dB up to 66 kHz, and distortion stays at 0.007% at 125 W. The 500 W switch-mode power supply, with SiC transistors and 2.5 kW power factor correction, delivers its output while limiting heat.
The MM phono input takes a turntable with a moving-magnet cartridge, with RIAA equalisation. Bass (100 Hz) and treble (10 kHz) adjust by ±15 dB through an active op-amp tone circuit, or leave the signal path via the Bypass switch. Three RCA line inputs, an XLR input, a subwoofer output and trigger sockets complete the aluminium casing, 43 cm wide, 35.5 cm deep and 10.3 cm high, weighing 9.5 kg.
