The MODEL 50 delivers 70 W per channel into 8 ohms and 100 W into 4 ohms. The signal runs through Marantz's HDAM SA3 and SA2 modules, arranged in a current-feedback topology. A toroidal transformer and a linear power supply with Schottky diodes feed the power stage, which is cooled by an extruded aluminium heatsink. Frequency response extends from 5 Hz to 100 kHz, with harmonic distortion of 0.02 % and a damping factor of 100.
A turntable connects directly to the MM phono input, with a sensitivity of 1.4 mV at 47 kohms. Its Marantz Musical equaliser applies the record's EQ curve, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 87 dB. Five more analogue inputs on gold-plated cinch sockets take the other sources in the system. The unit has no digital input, so the signal stays analogue from start to finish.
Two pairs of speakers, A and B, connect to four Marantz SPKT-1+ terminals. A preamp output and a subwoofer output complete the system, while the Power Amp Direct input turns the unit into a standalone power amplifier. Source Direct mode bypasses the bass and treble controls, which are adjustable by plus or minus 10 dB. A headphone output is there for private listening.
The front panel is metal, with a low-noise OLED display and a triple-layer chassis base. Two finishes are available, Black and Silver Gold, in a casing 442 mm wide, 431 mm deep and 130 mm high, weighing 14.2 kg. The RC003PMND remote control operates the unit, and the D-Bus link connects it to other Marantz components. In standby, power consumption drops to 0.3 W, and auto power-off switches the unit off when it is left unused.
