Dolby Atmos effect

The R8 Meta does not play the music, it places what comes from above. Set on top of a floorstanding speaker, it fires sound at the ceiling, which reflects it down to the sofa: the ear then locates the rain or the helicopter overhead, with no speaker fixed up there. Its bass stops at 88 Hz at −6 dB — everything below that belongs to the main speakers.

Uni-Q and Metamaterial

The 25 mm tweeter sits at the acoustic centre of the 125 mm aluminium cone, and a Metamaterial disc traps the rear wave of the dome. On an effect speaker that single source counts: the sound travels by way of the ceiling before it arrives, and two separate drivers would blur that path. The crossover hands over at 2.6 kHz.

Sealed cabinet

No port: the cabinet is sealed. A speaker lying flat on top of a floorstanding speaker rarely has air behind it, and a port would blow against the furniture. Distortion stays below 0.5% from 320 Hz to 20 kHz, and the level tops out at 106 dB.

Four and a half kilos

174 × 175 × 259 mm for 4.5 kg: the R8 Meta sits on top of an R5, R7 or R11 without unbalancing it. It asks for 25 to 150 W into 4 Ω, 3.2 Ω minimum, and its 85 dB sensitivity lines up with the rest of the R range. Three finishes follow the floorstanding speakers: gloss black, gloss white, walnut.
