The Wharfedale AURA 3 is a three-way floorstanding speaker with two 5-inch woofers, a 4-inch midrange driver and an AMT tweeter. It covers 39 Hz to 22 kHz (±3 dB) and is sold individually.
The AURA 3 comes in hi-gloss black, walnut and hi-gloss white. The walnut is a natural wood veneer; the black and the white are lacquered, then polished. The multi-layer cabinet walls damp panel resonances. The model stands 103.7 cm tall on its base, is 24.6 cm wide and weighs 23 kg.
Two 5-inch (130 mm) woofers and a 4-inch (100 mm) midrange driver use black woven glass-fibre matrix cones, with rubber surrounds. The voice coils move in a high-flux magnetic field, channelled by copper-plated pole pieces. Each cast aluminium frame is bolted to the cabinet with six screws.
The pleated AMT diaphragm (27 × 90 mm) moves air without a piston motion, so without the inertia of a rigid membrane. The crossover points are 460 Hz and 3.3 kHz. The response at ±3 dB covers 39 Hz to 22 kHz.
The port opens downward and spreads its airflow through slots in the base. Bass extension reaches 28 Hz at -6 dB, with internal volumes of 4 L and 42.8 L. The nominal impedance is 6 Ω (compatible with 8 Ω), with a minimum of 3.1 Ω. Drive it with an amplifier rated 25 to 150 W, for a sensitivity of 88 dB and a peak of 104 dB.
